The cap covers one calendar month from the 1st to the 31st (or 30th) of the month. The amount is reset after the first connection of the month.
This depends on the customer profile. For prepay customers, the cap is inclusive of VAT. For subscriber (postpaid) customers, the cap is exclusive of VAT. The confirmation SMS sent to the customer will always contain this information.

Yes. Text ‘U’ to 64046. Access is locked for the remainder of the month, but the cap will be reset for the next month. You’ve exceeded your cap for the current month but you can view your balance at any time by texting ‘I’ to 64046. You can always unlock your access and select a new cap by texting ‘O’ and your chosen amount to 64046.
French is currently the only language available. English, German and Luxembourgish will be offered soon.
Your computer needs to have an SMS client and an application that enables you to send and receive SMS messages. You should check your inbox regularly in case the application doesn’t notify an incoming message. Contact the Connectivity department for information on sending and receiving SMS with a laptop.
For SMS messages containing an incorrect amount, a default cap of €50 is set. This is in line with the European Directive, which provides for a default cap of €50 for all users from 1 July.
You will receive a notification just before you’ve used 80% or 100% of your allowance. For example, for a €50 cap, you’ll receive your 100% usage SMS notification once you’ve used €47, leaving some margin for the remaining MB allowance. Within Europe, this remaining MB allowance will not exceed €3, ensuring that the €50 cap is not exceeded. However, in a non-European country, and for a plan with a higher MB allowance, this cap can be slightly exceeded.
Unlocking access is not enough – the DNS session needs to be disconnected. Try one of the following:
- Disconnect and reconnect
- Switch off your mobile and switch it back on again.
- Switch to airplane mode then back into voice mode
The cap chosen will replace the existing cap. If the cap is reached, data roaming access will then be locked. The customer must unlock their access by texting ‘U’ to be able to use their data roaming again.
The ‘O’ plus ‘[space] 25’ text format must be used, otherwise an SMS reply will ask the customer to text the letter ‘H’ for Help or to call the call centre direct.
If the limit was already set by SMS between 1 March 2010 and 28 June 2010 (the 64046 short code will not work during the system migration from 28 to 30 June), this limit will be kept and the default limit will not be applied. Only users who did not subscribe to a limit before 28 June will have a default limit of €50.
Yes, it is an EU regulation but it covers the entire global network. If a customer is outside Europe, they will continue to be protected by the limit they selected previously.
No. If the customer requested to block data roaming on their contract, the mechanism will not reactivate this service. This will be fully transparent. However, if the customer wants to reactivate data roaming, they will need to request an amendment to their contract before setting a price limit.
